Are your documents too long and too complex to lay out in Word? Then it is time to consider FrameMaker, the software of choice for professional technical writers. This two-day class is designed for the new FrameMaker user, and for those who are using the program, but feel like they are stuggling to complete their work in a timely manner. Introduction to FrameMaker 8 focuses on the core features of FrameMaker, including:
- Working with FrameMaker Documents (a quick overview of the FrameMaker interface)
- Defining Paragraph Formats (create a single book chapter from scratch and learn how to define Paragraph formats with the Paragraph Designer)
- Defining Color and Character Formats (learn how to add color and inline formatting with the Character Designer
- Page Layout (define running headers and footers that pull live data off the page, and update with document editing)
- Graphics (add imported images and FrameMaker-drawn graphics to your chapter)
- Document Editing (explore user variables, spell-check, thesaurus, extended characters, and more)
- Tables (easily one of the most powerful features of FrameMaker, learn to define table formats with Table Designer to quickly and accurately format multiple tables)
A copy of the coursebook and the data files will be sent to you prior to the start of the class. Note: Adobe opted not to upgrade the FrameMaker 7 courseware to version 8. This class will use the FrameMaker 7 materials, but will address the upgraded features during the class.

Adobe Framemaker 8 Advanced
This two-day class looks at a few more features used in individual documents, but the primary focus is on collecting your chapters and working with them in the Book window:
- Anchored Frames and Graphics. (define a variety of anchored frames that move with the text)
- Cross-References and Footnotes. (add & customize cross-references and insert & format footnotes)
- Books and TOC. (pull multiple chapters into a book and learn how to control page numbering, and then generate a table of contents for the entire book)
- Indexes. (add index markers to your chapters, and generate an Index from the completed book)
- Conditional Text. (learn how to use conditional text to create multiple versions of a single document)
- Hypertext and PDF. (create PDF files from your Frame chapters files and book files)
- HTML and Web Publishing. (use the reference pages to control the mapping of your FrameMaker styles to the closest equivalent HMTL codes, and convert your FrameMaker chapter or book to HTML for posting to a web page)
