Adobe InDesign CS3
This two-day class is designed for the new InDesign user, and for those who are using the program, but feel like they are taking a round-about way to getting the job done. Those of you transitioning to InDesign from Quark and PageMaker will also find this class beneficial.
Introduction to InDesign CS3 focuses on the core features of InDesign, including:
- Getting to Know the Work Area (a quick overview of the CS3 interface)
- Setting Up Your Document (creating a new document from scratch, with a focus on working with linked Master Pages and placeholder frames)
- Working with Frames (a look at the difference between the Selection and Direct Selection tool, everything you need to know about InDesign frames plus placing graphics)
- Importing and Editing Text (placing text files into InDesign and controlling the formatting through Paragraph and Character Styles)
- Working with Color (defining color, tint and gradient swatches)

Adobe InDesign CS3 Advanced
Are you using InDesign now, but feel like you are always working too hard to make your deadlines? This Advanced InDesign class is focused on streamlining your workflow so that you can get your publication to the printer in a timely manner and still have your nights and weekends for yourself. Here's what is covered:
- Working with Typography. (baseline alignment across multiple columns, glyphs, drop caps, spacing controls, tracking & kerning controls, setting tabs, attaching rules to paragraphs)
- Working with Styles. (a review of paragraph and character styles, plus how to nest character styles within a paragraph style, and a look at object styles, table styles and cell styles)
- Importing and Linking Graphics. (understanding the Links panel, plus how to get the most from your Illustrator and Photoshop files after they are placed into your InDesign layout)
- Creating Tables. (learn how to import an Excel spreadsheet and control the formatting with table and cell styles)
- Output and PDF Exporting. (using Preflight and Package commands, learn how to prepare files to send out for commercial printing)

Adobe InCopy CS3
This one-day class is designed for an office workgroup who is looking to implement an InCopy workflow. This class is best delivered in your office so that we can spend the morning learning the concepts and features of InCopy, and then spend the afternoon on implementing the procedures with your specific files. Each student needs to have access to the network drives so that they can see, in real-time, how to create assignments, check out files, input their edits, and check them back in. At least one participant (typically the graphic designer) needs to have a strong working knowledge of InDesign for this class to be a success.

- Understanding the InCopy Workflow. (Layout-based workflows vs Assignment-based workflows)
- Getting Started. (setting up your files)
- Writing and Editing Text in InCopy. (checking out the files, options and limitations, checking them back in)
- Good Practices. (a review of what you should and should not do with your InDesign/InCopy workflow)
A copy of the coursebook and the data files will be sent to you prior to the start of the class. Note: Adobe opted not to upgrade the InCopy CS2 book for InCopy CS3. This class uses the CS2 book as a foundation, but also covers what is new in CS3.
